Some signs are rather obvious: for instance, frequent blinking or squinting, and needing to get closer to objects to see them clearly. Other signs are more subtle: for instance, headaches, neck pain and declining academic performance. Myopia is a visual disorder that is becoming increasingly common. It manifests as blurry vision when looking at objects at a distance (in other words, nearsightedness). It is caused by excessive elongation of the eyeball (axial eye length) and tends to be hereditary. Myopia typically appears during childhood and usually worsens over time. It can sometimes lead to more serious complications, such as glaucoma, retinal detachment and myopic macular degeneration.<\/p>\n<\/div> <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Most experts agree that screen time plays a crucial role in this increase. Young children\u2019s prolonged exposure to screens while their eye structures are still developing is increasingly recognized as a factor in the rapid increase in early myopia cases. Fewer outdoor activities and insufficient exposure to natural light are also seen as contributing factors. Natural light may aid in myopia control.<\/p>\n
